Complete Starlink Installation: What You Need

⚡ 1. Power System — Run Starlink from 12V DC

Starlink Mini draws 25-75W and needs 48V DC. Running through an inverter wastes 15-25% of your battery as heat. Our DC-DC step-up converters eliminate the inverter entirely — more efficient, cooler, fewer failure points.

Wire sizing: Starlink Mini draws ~6A at 12V. For runs up to 15ft, use 10 AWG. For 15-25ft, use 8 AWG. Always fuse at the battery with a 15A inline fuse. For marine installations, use tinned copper conductors per ABYC E-11.

🔋 2. Battery Bank — Run Starlink Overnight

At 40W average draw, Starlink Mini consumes ~960Wh per 24 hours. A 100Ah 12V LiFePO4 battery (1,200Wh usable) gives you roughly 30 hours of runtime. Add solar and you're fully off-grid indefinitely.

Marine tip: Salt air corrodes bare copper in months. Always use tinned copper lugs and marine-grade cable for battery connections on boats. Our 6221-TP (tinned plated) series is purpose-built for marine environments.

☀️ 3. Solar Integration — Power Starlink Indefinitely

A 200W solar panel produces ~800-1,000Wh/day in good conditions — enough to offset Starlink Mini's 24-hour consumption with margin for other loads. Pair with an MPPT controller for maximum efficiency.

🌐 4. Networking — Extend WiFi Throughout Your Vessel

Starlink's built-in WiFi has limited range. For larger RVs, houseboats, and yachts, run Cat6 Ethernet to a secondary access point or mesh node. Use shielded outdoor-rated cable for exterior runs.

⏚ 5. Grounding & Bonding — Critical for Marine

ABYC E-11 requires all electronics on boats to be properly grounded. Starlink's PoE cable must be grounded through a lightning arrestor for optimal performance and safety. Without proper grounding, you'll see packet loss and random reboots.

🚢 6. Marine-Specific — Built for Salt Water

Marine Starlink installations face salt corrosion, vibration, and moisture. Every connector, cable, and lug must be marine-grade. Our tinned copper lugs, IP68-rated converters, and UV-stabilized cables are engineered for permanent offshore use.

⚠️ Marine wiring requirements (ABYC E-11): All conductors must be stranded tinned copper, minimum 16 AWG. Wire nuts are prohibited — use crimped marine-grade ring or fork terminals only. All connections must use captive-fork connectors on screw terminals. Minimum 8 AWG for bonding conductors. 3% max voltage drop for critical circuits.

🚐 7. RV-Specific — Park and Get Online

RV installations are simpler than marine but still require proper power management. The cleanest approach: permanent roof mount with sealed cable penetration, DC step-up in the equipment bay, and a single PoE cable through the roof. Total install time: 2-3 hours.
