Buy by raceway first. EMT and rigid have different outside diameters at the same trade size, so EMT couplings will not fit rigid and rigid couplings will not seal on EMT. Rigid threaded couplings need threaded pipe; rigid threadless compression couplings join unthreaded rigid or IMC where you can't thread or turn the pipe (NEC 344.42(B)).
