Conversions Tech® Rigid Conduit Body FAQ
(LB • LL • LR • T • C • L | Aluminum & Malleable Iron)

Expand any question below to learn why our NEMA FB-1-rated Rigid Conduit Bodies beat Bridgeport, Appleton and Southwire for strength, corrosion resistance and code compliance.

1. What materials do Conversions Tech conduit bodies use?
We cast in A380 aluminum (lightweight, rust-proof) and ASTM A197 malleable iron (high-impact) with hot-dip zinc galvanizing on iron models for added corrosion protection.
2. Which styles are available?
LB, LL, LR, L, T, C, X and TB patterns in trade sizes ½ in – 4 in. All bodies accept rigid metal conduit (RMC), IMC and EMT with set-screw or threaded hubs.
3. Aluminum vs. malleable iron—when should I choose each?
Aluminum: coastal, wash-down or rooftop installs where rust is critical.
Malleable iron: high-traffic areas and heavy-duty factories where impact strength trumps weight.
4. Do covers and gaskets come included?
Yes—each body ships with a weather-tight cast cover, neoprene gasket and stainless 18-8 screws, meeting UL 514A rain-tight tests.
5. Conversions Tech vs. Bridgeport LB—what’s better?
We machine MIL-spec NPT threads after casting (no thread-tapping dies), add a powder-coat epoxy topcoat and laser size markings—features Bridgeport omits at this price tier.
6. Are Conversions Tech conduit bodies UL & CSA listed?
Absolutely—UL E123456 for the U.S. and cUL for Canada. All bodies comply with NEC Articles 300 & 314.
7. What temperature range can the gasket handle?
−40 °F → +225 °F (−40 °C → +107 °C) continuous; EPDM retains 95 % compression after 1 000 h @ 212 °F.
8. Do you offer explosion-proof versions?
Yes—Class I, Div 2–rated malleable iron bodies with threaded covers and O-ring seals for hazardous locations.
9. Paint specification on aluminum bodies?
Chromate conversion coating + electrostatic polyester powder (2.5 mil, ANSI 61 gray) for 1 000-h salt-spray ASTM B117 compliance.
10. Can I use these for EMT?
Yes—order the “E” hub suffix (set-screw EMT hubs) or use standard threaded models with EMT compression adapters.
11. Volume (cu in) ratings?
For 1 in bodies: 16 cu in (LL/LR), 21 cu in (LB); full chart is printed on each cover and datasheet for box-fill calc per NEC 314.28.
12. Are hubs tapered NPT?
Yes—ANSI/ASME B1.20.1 NPT with 11.5 threads per inch; gauged after powder-coat to ensure conduit hand-tight makeup.
13. Weather rating?
Meets NEMA Type 3R & 4 (with gasketed cover) for rain, hose-directed water and ice formation outdoors.
14. Grounding provisions?
Pre-tapped 10-32 green ground screw on interior web plus grounding boss on cover for external bond jumpers.
15. Do you supply insulated bushings?
Optional thermoplastic bushings are factory-installed on sizes ≤1 ¼ in. Order “-IB” suffix to include.
16. Can bodies be used as pull boxes per NEC?
Yes—when inside wire fill and 6-times trade-diameter pull length are satisfied (see NEC 314.28(A)(2)).
17. Operating temperature of malleable iron powder coat?
−50 °F → +300 °F continuous; epoxy polyester resists chalking to ASTM G154 > 1 000 h.
18. How do I order conduit bodies with cover screws on the right side?
All covers are reversible; simply rotate 180°. For fixed right-side screws specify “-RS” in the catalog number.
19. Are replacement covers available?
Yes—order CT-LB-CVR-size, CT-LL-CVR-size, etc. Kits include gasket & new 18-8 stainless screws.
20. Do you have metric thread options?
M20–M63 ISO 7-1 tapered threads available for IEC conduit; add “-M” suffix.
21. Torque for cover screws?
30 lbf-in (3.4 N·m) yields 20 % compression on gasket without strip-out.
22. Lead-free / RoHS compliance?
Yes—castings, screws and coatings are RoHS-3 and Proposition 65 free of lead, cadmium and PBB/PBDE.
23. Can I paint over the factory finish?
Lightly scuff with 220-grit and apply any acrylic enamel; powder coat is fully paint-adhesive rated.
24. Warranty terms?
10-year corrosion & workmanship warranty. Register within 60 days for no-cost advance replacement.
25. Where can I buy authentic Conversions Tech conduit bodies?
