Conversions Tech — MPO/MTP Multimode Fiber Optic Trunk & Breakout Cable

The Conversions Tech MPO/MTP multimode fiber optic trunk is a high-density backbone interconnect engineered for data centers, SAN fabrics, enterprise LANs, and carrier networks requiring parallel optics. Constructed with Corning ClearCurve® 50/125 µm multimode glass, DuPont™ Kevlar® aramid yarn for tensile reinforcement, and a low-smoke zero-halogen (LSZH) jacket, the assembly is designed for low loss, mechanical robustness, and CPR fire safety compliance. Precision MPO/UPC female connectors deliver ≤0.35 dB insertion loss and ≥30 dB return loss, validated to Telcordia GR-326-CORE and TIA-605-4 (FOCIS 5). The default build ships in Type B polarity, optimized for 40GBASE-SR4, 100GBASE-SR4, and SWDM transmission across OM3 Aqua, OM4 Magenta, and OM5 Lime Green variants.

Technical FAQ — MPO/MTP Multimode Fiber Assemblies

MPO vs MTP — what’s the difference?Connectors

MPO is the IEC standardized multi-fiber push-on interface (IEC 61754-7 / TIA-604-5). MTP® is a proprietary high-tolerance MPO-compatible design offering lower insertion loss, floating ferrules, and better pin precision. Our default cables use MPO/UPC female connectors, intermateable with compliant MPO and MTP systems.

Which polarity does the cable ship with?Polarity

Default build: Type B, female, UPC. Suitable for parallel optics (SR4, SR10). Type A and C builds are available on request.

Insertion Loss & Return Loss values?Optical Loss
  • Insertion Loss: ≤0.35 dB max per interface (≤0.30 dB typical)
  • Return Loss: ≥30 dB (UPC multimode)
OM3 vs OM4 vs OM5 performance?Fiber Classes
Class Bandwidth (EMBc) Reach @ 40/100G SR4 Color
OM3 ≥2000 MHz·km ~100 m Aqua
OM4 ≥4700 MHz·km ~150 m Magenta
OM5 ≥4700 MHz·km (850 nm) SWDM 150–180 m Lime Green
What’s the minimum bend radius?Bend Radius

Core bend: ≥10 mm • Cable OD (3.0 mm): ≥7.5 mm. Corning ClearCurve® allows tighter bends with reduced macrobend loss, but avoid exceeding recommended limits.

Environmental ratings?Environment

Operating: −10 → +70 °C • Storage: −40 → +85 °C • Tensile strength: 80 N • Jacket: LSZH, CPR EN 50575 compliant.

Breakout / fan-out options?Breakout

Available as MPO-to-MPO trunks or MPO-to-LC/SC/FC/ST breakouts. Default LC branch length: 0.6–1.0 m. Sub-units reinforced with aramid yarn for rack strain relief.

What testing is performed?QA
  • Endface geometry checked via interferometer per IEC 61300-3-35
  • IL/RL tested at 850/1300 nm
  • Visual 200–400× inspection
  • Serial test report traceability available
Customization available?Custom

Supports 8–48 cores, Type A/B/C polarity, male/female, UPC/APC polish, custom lengths, jackets (LSZH, plenum, armored), and labeling. Contact us for engineered builds.
