UL 467 irreversible compression C-tap grounding connector for a 3/0 AWG–500 MCM run with a 3/0 AWG–500 MCM tap — the largest equal-range C-tap in the line, for full-size junctions on heavy grid conductor. The open C-body hooks over an uncut run. Listed for direct burial and concrete encasement. Covers the range Burndy HYGROUND HYTAP™ splits across three catalog numbers — same 12-ton tool platform.

Type C-tap, run + tap
Run range 3/0 AWG–500 MCM Cu
Tap range 3/0 AWG–500 MCM Cu
Material High-conductivity wrought copper
Listings UL 467 grounding & bonding; direct burial / concrete encasement
Tooling 12-ton U-die hydraulic (Y750/PAT750/Y46 class); die index stamped on body

Cross-reference

Manufacturer Part No. Covers Die index
Burndy HYGROUND YGHC29C29 3/0 str–250 kcmil run; 3/0–250 kcmil tap 997 (U997), 1 crimp
Burndy HYGROUND YGHC34C29 300–500 kcmil run or 3/4" rod; 3/0–250 kcmil tap 1011 (U1011), 2 crimps
Burndy HYGROUND YGHC34C34 300–500 kcmil run; 300–500 kcmil tap 1011 (U1011), 3 crimps

One CT connector spans the range Burndy splits across three catalog numbers. Cross-references identify equivalent function and conductor range; verify die selection against the index stamped on the connector.

Where it's used

  • 500 MCM grid-to-grid tees on substation, transmission, and generation grounding mats
  • Buried junctions with no access box (NEC 250.68(A) Exception)
  • Maximum-fault-current paths specifying IEEE 837-class permanent connections

How to install

Wire-brush both conductors to bright metal, hook the C over the uncut run, lay the tap in the saddle with tail past the connector ends, and crimp with the stamped die index until the dies fully bottom — center first, working outward. Full field procedure: How to Crimp Irreversible Compression Grounding Connectors.

Why irreversible compression

NEC 250.64(C)(1) permits grounding electrode conductor splices only by irreversible compression or exothermic welding. Compression installs in wet trenches with no hot-work permit, and every crimp embosses its die index for inspection. More: Where, How, and Why to Use Irreversible Compression Grounding.
