Type Figure 6, rod-to-cable
Rod size 1/2–5/8 in
Conductor range 3/0 AWG STR–250 MCM Cu

Cross-reference

Manufacturer Part No. Covers Die index
Burndy HYGROUND YGHP29C29 1/0–250 kcmil run or 1/2"–5/8" rod; 3/0–250 kcmil tap 997 (U997), 1 crimp

Cross-references identify equivalent function and conductor/rod range; verify die selection against the index stamped on the connector.

Where it's used

  • Heavy-conductor (3/0–250 MCM) rod terminations on industrial and substation grids
  • Buried and concrete-encased connections — no access box required (NEC 250.68(A) Exception)
  • Sites specifying IEEE 837-class permanent connections on mixed 1/2"–5/8" rod stock

How to install

Drive the rod, wire-brush rod and conductor to bright metal, seat the connector with conductor tail visible past the barrel, and crimp with the stamped die index until the dies fully bottom — center first, working outward. Full field procedure: How to Crimp Irreversible Compression Grounding Connectors.

Why irreversible compression

NEC 250.64(C)(1) permits grounding electrode conductor splices only by irreversible compression or exothermic welding. Compression installs in wet trenches with no hot-work permit, and every crimp embosses its die index for inspection. More: Where, How, and Why to Use Irreversible Compression Grounding.
