Split Bolt Cross-Reference Chart: Burndy KS, ILSCO IK, Blackburn H, NSI N-Series

Copper split bolts are a commodity, but the catalog numbers are not interchangeable across brands — each family cuts its size breaks a little differently. This chart maps the Conversions Tech 610-series copper split bolts to the four families most often written into specs: Burndy SERVIT® Type KS, ILSCO Type IK / IK-N, Blackburn (ABB) Type H, and NSI N-series. Ranges are the manufacturer's published equal main and tap range; min-tap and torque are from the same datasheets.

* NSI catalog number follows the family's max-size naming (verified on N-6 and N-250); confirm range on the NSI datasheet for critical work. Blackburn 30H (4/0–2), 350M (350–250) and 500M (500–400) are the nearest Type H sizes and differ slightly in range from the CT part. Torque values are UL 486A-class figures for the maximum conductor combination; follow the marking on the connector in hand.

How the families differ

  • Burndy KS numbers its bodies by an internal code (KS15…KS44) rather than conductor size; the -3 suffix (KS17-3, KS20-3, KS22-3) takes three conductors and is not UL listed.
  • ILSCO IK numbers by maximum conductor. The IK-N line (IK-10N through IK-1/0N) is the current small-size design with a shaped pressure pad; the legacy IK-6 / IK-4 / IK-2 / IK-1/0 numbers still appear in specs. Our 610-series ranges mirror the IK family size for size.
  • Blackburn Type H is copper-through-4/0 ("H") and copper-alloy above ("M"). H3 variants take three wires. Type HPS/HPW are the plated, spacer-equipped dual-rated versions for Cu/Al work.
  • NSI N-series numbers by maximum conductor, same convention as ILSCO.

What crosses and what doesn't: a copper-alloy split bolt crosses to another copper-alloy split bolt of the same range. It does not cross to a dual-rated (Cu/Al) body — Burndy KSU, ILSCO SK, Blackburn HPS — which have spacers and different listings. If the spec calls for a dual-rated part, cross within that class.
