Set-screw connectors install faster and work in dry indoor locations. Compression connectors are required for wet, damp, or outdoor locations per NEC 358.42. Compression provides concrete-tight and rain-tight connections.

What size EMT connector do I need?

Start with the raceway and the location. Indoor dry/damp: set-screw (fastest) or compression. Concrete pours: concrete-tight compression or set-screw so marked. Outdoor, rooftops, wash-down: raintight compression — NEC 358.42 requires wet-location-listed fittings there. Conductors 4 AWG and larger need an insulated throat or bushing (300.4(G)); service equipment and concentric knockouts over 250 V need grounding bushings with bonding jumpers (250.92, 250.97). Support within 3 ft of every box and every 10 ft (358.30).
