The Figure 8 Compression Ground Rod Connector joins 3/4" ground rods to 4-250 MCM copper conductors in electrical grounding and lightning protection systems. The figure-8 profile permits two continuous parallel conductors to run through the connector body, reducing stack height in crowded enclosures and simplifying taping. Designed for direct burial applications where long-term reliability and corrosion resistance are required.

Specifications

  • Ground rod size: 3/4"
  • Cable range: 4-250 MCM
  • Material: high-strength copper alloy
  • Configuration: Figure 8 (allows 2 continuous parallel conductors)
  • Pre-filled with anti-oxidant
  • Direct burial rated
  • Voltage rating: 600 Volts
  • Temperature rating: 90°C
  • UL 467 listed
  • UL96 listed for Lightning Protection

Cross-Reference

Equivalent to Burndy, Panduit, and Ilsco figure-8 style mechanical ground rod connectors. Conversions Tech specifications match major manufacturer performance at reduced cost with US engineering oversight and certified factory production.

FAQ

Can I use this connector for two separate conductor runs, or must they be continuous?

The figure-8 design accommodates two continuous parallel conductors passing through the connector body. This is not a dual-tap configuration for terminating two separate cables to the rod.

Is additional anti-oxidant required during installation?

The connector arrives pre-filled with anti-oxidant. For direct burial installations, follow standard preparation practices for the exposed conductor surfaces per NEC 250.70 and manufacturer instructions.

Does UL96 listing satisfy lightning protection system requirements?

UL96 listing specifically covers lightning protection system components per UL 96A installation requirements. Verify with your AHJ that the application meets local code for LPS grounding electrode connections.

Brand Series / Part Notes
Burndy HYGROUND / HYTAP YGHR-class* irreversible compression grounding, UL 467, direct burial - supply-house pricing typically 2-3x CT $42.90
Panduit StructuredGround compression grounding series* match by conductor range

Where & why irreversible compression

NEC 250.64(C) requires grounding electrode conductors to be continuous or joined with irreversible compression connectors or exothermic welding - standard mechanical clamps are not permitted for buried or concealed GEC splices. These UL 467 listed connectors are rated for direct burial in earth or concrete. Range: 4-2/0 cable / 3/4 in rod.

How to crimp

Single crimp with a 12-ton class dieless or U-die hydraulic tool (Burndy Y35/Y750 class, index per size). CT stocks compatible crimp tools and dies at distributor pricing - the same tool runs our full lug and grounding line.
