Irreversible Compression Grounding

UL 467 irreversible compression grounding connectors — C-taps, Figure 6, and Figure 8 ground rod connectors in high-conductivity wrought copper, listed for direct burial and concrete encasement and cross-compatible with the Burndy HYGROUND® system (HYTAIL™ YGHR-C, HYTAP™ YGHP-C, HYTAP™ YGHC-C): same 12-ton U-die tool platform, same dies, distributor-direct pricing.

Why this connector class: NEC 250.64(C)(1) permits grounding electrode conductor splices only by irreversible compression or exothermic welding, and NEC 250.68(A) Exception lets a listed compression connection stay buried or encased with no access box. Unlike exothermic welds, compression installs in wet trenches with no hot-work permit — and every crimp embosses its die index for inspection. Utility and data-center specs calling for IEEE 837-class permanent connections are the home turf of this line.

Choosing a connector: match both ranges — the run conductor (or rod diameter) and the tap. Figure 8 joins a ground rod (1/2"–1") to cable; Figure 6 covers rod-to-cable and cable-to-cable taps up to 500 MCM; C-taps hook over an uncut run for grid tees without cutting the conductor. All install with a 12-ton hydraulic crimper using the die index stamped on the body.

Cross-references identify equivalent function and conductor/rod range on the same 12-ton die platform; verify die selection against the index stamped on the connector.
