LB vs LL vs LR vs T vs C: Conduit Body Types Explained (With Cross-Reference Chart)
Aug 13, 2026
Conduit bodies solve two problems in a rigid or EMT raceway: they change direction without field bends, and they give you a code-compliant pull point. The letter on the casting tells you the geometry — and picking the wrong one means fighting the pull or re-plumbing the run. Here's how each type works and when to use it.
Type LB — the workhorse
An LB turns the raceway 90° with the removable cover on the back of the fitting. It's the standard choice for coming off a horizontal run and turning through a wall or into an enclosure — the cover faces you for an easy pull, and the body sits flat against the mounting surface. If you only stock one conduit body type, it's this one. Shop LB conduit bodies →
Types LL and LR — left and right turns
Hold the body with the cover facing you: an LL has its openings on the back and the left; an LR on the back and the right. Use them when the raceway hugs a wall and needs to turn parallel to the surface instead of through it. Mixing them up is the most common conduit body ordering mistake — they are mirror images, not interchangeable.
Type T — the branch
A T body is a straight run with a 90° branch: three hubs, one cover. It taps a branch circuit off a main run while giving all three legs a pull point — far cleaner than a junction box for a single tap.
Type C — the straight pull
A C body is straight-through: two hubs in line, cover on top. Its job is the NEC 360° rule — you can't exceed four quarter-bends between pull points, and a C body resets the count mid-run without breaking the raceway into boxes.
Size cross-reference: Crouse-Hinds, Appleton, O-Z/Gedney
The big three use identical Form-series part numbers, so one number identifies the size across all of them — and our equivalents:
| Trade Size | Their Part (LB shown) | Typical Street Price | Conversions Tech |
| 1/2" | LB17 | $8–14 | $3.47 |
| 3/4" | LB27 | $9–16 | $4.58 |
| 1" | LB37 | $10–20 | $6.42 |
| 1-1/4" | LB47 | $18–30 | $11.97 |
| 1-1/2" | LB57 | $22–38 | $12.71 |
| 2" | LB67 | $30–50 | $22.21 |
The same size digits apply to LL, LR, T, and C types (LL27, LR57, T37, C17, etc.). Competitor names and part numbers are trademarks of their respective owners, referenced for size compatibility. One caution from the manufacturers' own literature: covers and gaskets are not interchangeable between brands — always use the cover supplied with the body.
Aluminum vs iron
Our bodies are copper-free die-cast aluminum: roughly a third the weight of Feraloy iron, better corrosion resistance outdoors, and NEMA 3R rated — at 50–65% below branded iron pricing. All UL Listed and CSA Certified, threaded for RMC/IMC or set-screw for EMT.
